What are factors of evaporation

What are factors of evaporation

Temperature.

If we increase the temperature of a liquid, the kinetic energy of a liquid molecule also increases. Hence evaporation increases.

If the temperature is decreased, kinetic energy of the liquid molecules also decreases. Hence evaporation also decreases.

What are factors of evaporation

Intermolecular forces.

If the strong intermolecular forces are present between the liquid molecules, evaporation is decreased.

If weak intermolecular forces are present between the liquid molecules, evaporation is increased.

For example,

Water molecules have strong intermolecular forces and evaporates slowly. And petrol molecules have weak intermolecular forces and evaporate faster.

Surface area.

Surface area is directly proportional to evaporation. If surface area is increased, evaporation of the liquid molecules also increases.

If surface area is decreased, then the evaporation is also decreased.

For example,

If tea is poured into a saucer, the molecules evaporate faster because surface area is increased as compared to the surface area of the cup.
